Abraham DeVault,

The following information can be found in “A genealogy of the descendants of James Steele and his wife Mary, late of Clinton district, Monogalia county, Virginia (now West Virginia)

Abraham attended the first subscription schools established in his district and learned the carpenter’s trade but followed farming as his essential occupation throughout life.

He served in the war of 1812 as a private in Capt. James Morgan’s Co. In politics he was an old time Whig and he took keen interest in the politics of his day, his own views favoring high protectiori.
